Data tells a story, provides a perspective, gives a viewpoint. Data doesn’t sit in isolation or get generated in isolation.
Data often reflects the world from which it is generated. This includes the power dynamics, inequality, racism and so on. It is easier to assume data is neutral and to discuss it than to acknowledge to what it is connected.
It is said that history is told from the point of view of the powerful; the victor. However, that does not mean it is the only story. The same is true about data.
