‘Do the best you can until you know better. When you know better, do better.‘
Maya Angelou
This is such a fantastic quote on so many levels. It doesn’t talk about being perfect, but rather focuses on where you are at today. Not tomorrow or three weeks ago, but today. And it is also not about someone else’s best or someone else’s expectation, but rather yours.
This is a powerful reminder for me especially when this is combined with the 1% rule and the desire to learn. When I interact with others who have different perspectives than mine on topics ranging from digital transformation to identity to permaculture. These intentional engagements almost guarantee I will ‘know better‘ and then I can act on that.
Maya Angelou’s quote can also do wonders in organisations, ones that learn. For example, imagine how our organisations, our teams, would change if we practiced this quote after watching this brilliant video from Simon:
When we know better, do better.
The choice is up to us.
