The Middle Management Challenge

This week in a conversation about change needed in the NGO sector one of the participants said “middle management is the problem, not executives or frontline staff”.   The room went pin drop quiet for a moment as the truth of the statement sunk in – partly because everyone in the room was middle management.

Middle management are the ones most invested in the way things are so of course want things to remain the same (processes, people, and culture).  How many books and resources about change focus on vision and executive leadership – where are the resources on working with middle management?
