People’s behaviours and organisational culture is notoriously difficult to change. We often have great visions and goals outlined, but even then we don’t succeed. It feels a bit like New Year’s resolutions.
What would happen if we would define the change we want to see by habits – so things ‘communicate with at least one person outside your immediate team each day’ or ‘once a week have a discussion with at least one customer about how s/he thinks you can improve your product or service’ or ‘if you work on the weekend, don’t send the emails you write till Monday morning’. And so on.
Overall goals can be helpful, but when we focus on the habits that help achieve the goals it is easier to ‘see’ what we can do today.
