Growing up, I would sometimes want to do something because my friends were doing it. This reason never went down well with my parents and the retort was “if you friends jumped off a cliff, would you?”
This is relevant today when think about technology. Just because we can do something with technology, doesn’t mean we should. We need to be clear on what the problem is that we are trying to solve.
Too often we fixate on the technology and look for a place to use it. This can be fun, but also harmful.
