Technology will not fix the world, your organisational challenge, business challenge, or community challenge. It can help, assist, be part of the solution, but it doesn’t work alone.
Technology often highlights the issues that already exists. Like bias, inequality, power dynamics, capacity gaps. The old adage of ‘garbage in, garbage out’ holds true. Most of us know this.
And yet, we still bring round, shiny toys to square situations insisting the new tech is the answer. Or we parachute in a new tech system assuming it will just ‘work’ and people will just ‘get it’. But we don’t think about their capacity. Or we are shocked to realise not everyone has a smartphone.
Technology is amazing. However, it is exponentially more amazing when paired with humans. And when we consider the factors required for success before we launch and expect everything to go smoothly.
Shiny toys are fun to play with, changing the world and your community is slightly more challenging.
