When you do something different you feel uncomfortable, perhaps even like a fake or an imposter. Why would you expect anything different as you’ve never done it before?
The nature of change is doing something or behaving in a way that you haven’t before. It’s different. It’s going to be uncomfortable. If it isn’t, then perhaps it’s not really change or enough of a change to make a difference.
Is it easy? No. Is feeling like an imposter fun? No. But if we step back from it enough, we can realise it is can be a guide, a marker, indicating we are on the right path or on to something. And maybe we can flip the impact it has on us to be one of excitement rather than dread. Excited that we feel it because it means we are stretching ourselves and doing the work that matters.
If this resonates with you or you want to hear more, Pete & Jen talk about it here and Jonathan and Rochelle talk with Seth about it here. And of course most of what Steven Pressfield talks and writes about it is this.
