What you can do

by | Mar 12, 2020 | Ideas |

Wash your hands. Practice good hygiene. Self-isolate. Keep social distance. Flatten the curve. These are the common themes of the day as the world enters the pandemic stage. While these are good themes, I’d like to propose we add a few more.

Be human. If you have neighbours, check in on them. Give them a call. A smile. An old fashion written note.  For those of us who are healthy there is much less to worry about but the elderly, the housebound and those with chronic health conditions may be very anxious.

Take precautions by all means, but let’s not demonise a people group. We all know vulnerable people, let’s check in with them. Safely of course, but let’s check in with them. And yes, technology can help with this – skype, zoom, emails, SMS, and the good ol’ telephone.

Self isolating and social distancing may be the right thing to do. But we don’t need to be cut off. Check in with each other. Community is needed more than ever.
