You can’t be friends with everyone. Frankly, I’m not sure you’d want to be. It is often our similarities that attract us to each other. However, it often our quirks that keep us together. The quirks are the parts which allow the light to get in, but also out. The quirks are the oddball bits making us into a tribe. They also are the stories that connect us.

Ideas need friends too, otherwise change doesn’t happen. Ideas come with choices and need contributors, culture, and context to survive. However, to move out of idea stage, our ideas need to be talked about by others. And for that it needs to be ‘remarkable‘.

But here’s the thing. When the idea is remarkable, some people won’t like it. Some will criticise it. Some will hate it.

However, there is a difference between the idea and you. You are not your idea and the idea is not you or yours.

We confuse the two at our peril.
