To Be Continued

to be continued

This weekend, I heard another small part a friend’s cancer story. She is a very strong woman, thriving in the world. However, while in treatment for cancer, she told us how physically weak she became and how that experienced changed how she viewed the world. Things and places became threats and worries, when previously they were not.

Our stories shape us and they change over time. And our stories have many layers. Surface stories like how my friend’s cancer made her her world differently. But also deeper stories like ‘I am weak’ or ‘I am rejected’.

These stories – all of them – impact how we experience change. And change itself is a story. There is not one personal change or organisational change story. There are many. And so when you work with teams, organisations, part of the job of a change maker is to find the existing stories and work with them. And our stories are never finished, they are always ‘to be continued’.

The choice is up to us.
