Malaria Celebration

Sometimes it’s good to pause and celebrate good news. And while the breakthrough happened over 6 years ago, it is only now the roll out is beginning to happen. I am of course talking about the malaria vaccine. 229 million, yes million, cases occur each year resulting in over 400,000 deaths each year. Each year. Most of them children. And most of them in communities where people are living in poverty.

Malaria may not be something that you are familiar with, but as someone who has had it, I can say it is no fun. So pause today for a moment and celebrate this milestone in vaccination history. It will be a moment that goes down in history. And perhaps, if you are up for it, and if you live in an economically richer country, write to your MP asking them to advocate for funding to be given so that the most vulnerable of the world do not need to pay for a life saving vaccine.

It’s the least we can do.
