Tunnel Vision

tunnel vision

Driving through a tunnel limits your view. When we came out the other side, the kids gasped with wonder at what they saw. ‘I don’t know where to look! So much beauty!’ And then we back in another tunnel, focused at looking forward and looking for the end.

Some times in change we need a funnel to reduce our choice options. Other times we need to get out and look around. The thing to remember is that the view exists even when we are in the tunnel, our view is just reduced.

Change makers know this. Sometimes it is helpful to reduce the options and choices available to help us move forward. Other times we need ‘blue sky’ thinking creating many options to explore. Problem solving (or solution finding requires many options, while implementation often requires limited options and focused actions.

Too many options is rarely helpful when implementing a project.
