‘We didn’t do it like that in my day.’ We’ve likely all heard that said to us before. Perhaps we’ve also said it.
It’s tough to hear this from someone we love or respect. It makes whatever ‘it’ is feel wrong. It makes it hard to try new things, new approaches.
And yet we must expect to hear these words and still have the resolve to try a different way. It does not need to be disrespectful or rude. Trying new things is what makes change. It may be tough. It may be unpopular. But change doesn’t happen without it.
Expect the comments, the looks, the frowns. Expect them, but seek change anyway. Culture changes drip by drip by drip.
The choice is up to us.
