For Me

apple pie

For my Mom, baking an amazing apple pie was easy. So was adding up numbers and balancing books. For my Dad, baking bread, raisin bread, was his thing. So was fixing almost anything or growing plants. Our carpenters find it easy to take a large oak beam and transform it into a ladder. Baking an apple pie is extremely difficult for them. My Mom did not like working with wood. Some friends seem to look at plants and they die, but can inspire young children teaching them about the world.

The list can go on and on. You, your family, your team will all have things you find easy and other things you find hard. When we hear ourselves say, ‘It’s easy’ or ‘It’s common sense’ or some variation of these, perhaps we need to stop ourselves and add ‘for me’. Our perspective and skill set will be different than others, just because we can do it, doesn’t mean everyone can. And that’s ok.
