Many of us want freedom to move and do as we please. We want to innovate and change the way organisations and society works. And it is easy to rail against the structures of our current world. Sometimes however it is helpful to remember that our bodies are free to move, walk, run, dance partly because of structure. In our bodies case, because of our skeletal structure. Without it, we’d be a blob or pool on the ground and not much use.
Structure is both limiting and freeing. Part of organisational, societal, and cultural change is identifying the current structures that exist. And then figuring out what each structure enables and what it limits. Once we know, we can be free to work with and through the structures.
And perhaps even change them.
What structures are you working with? Which ones do you need to change?
