It’s not talked about much. We glorify the start not the finish. Ending has come to mean failure. Not success. Ending well is not easy and usually fought every step of the way. However, it doesn’t have to be this way – it can be generous and gracious. Our ego, our self-worth does not need to tied to our work, our product, our service. The two can be and should be separate. When they are, it enables us to end better, in fact it enables ending to be an option to consider.
FrontlineSMS is closing – it is trying to end well. This is a courageous act and I would encourage all change makers to read about it – this post and the subsequent ones that will follow.
This will have been a slow decision, one agonised over. Choosing to end before you are forced to end is a brave act. And one most of us can learn from.
Thank you FrontlineSMS for your years of service. For creating an amazing product and service. For being one of the ‘firsts’. And we all look forward to seeing what all of you involved will get up to next because you are more the FLSMS.
