Every day women and girls suffer from harassment as they go about their lives. And it is said to be exponentially worse in online spaces or when we ‘go digital’. However, I am not aware of a ‘harassment’ check being done as part of any organisation’s criteria for ‘going digital’ or digital transformation.
Too often technology is viewed as neutral and any potential harmful use cases are left for the victims to manage. And yes, we all (men, women, boys and girls) need to improve our understanding of how to live wisely in a digital world. But as organisations and teams, we need to adds checks into our procurement and decision making processes to help us consider how the systems we choose enable harassment.
Perhaps it’s time to make a different choice.
