Choosing your own adventure is both thrilling and scary. There many options and paths to choose from. And rarely is only one correct.
If you want to have a good income stream as an NGO, hire a good creative writer and a creative accountant who understand project implementation. They will keep your economic engine running and ticking over writing reports that please the donor, not the project.
If you seek compliance, hire an ‘average’ report writer, auditor, and accountant. They will help you follow the rules and say ‘no’ a lot.
If you want to have lasting impact hire a great community engagement person and a great MEAL person. They will help you listen to the community you seek to serve and work with you to adapt the project to achieve greater impact.
If you are curious what type of organisation you work for ask which positions get cut or left out when budgets need to be reduced – MEAL or finance.
The choice is up to us.
