As our organisation changes, the once stable fully funded positions who could ‘impose’ themselves on projects and programmes, no longer are allowed to do this; in fact the tables have turned completely, now they need to be requested. Their roles have shifted from being fully funded project staff to being consultants. It is uncomfortable; uncertain.
Whether we like it or not, we are all marketers now. We need to sell our services, but more than that we need to communicate the value we bring to projects. It’s not that we have been creating value for years, but now we need to identify it, own it, and communicate it.
“Selling” is difficult for most, but as Bernadette says one of the key questions we can ask ourselves “Are you selling or are you showing up in the best light for the people who need you? Sales can be a service. And vice versa”.
How can we continually create value AND communicate it?
